When I was a young teenager in the late sixties (now I’m in my late sixties!!!), I fell in love with the sound of the electric guitar- back in the days of vinyl and great album covers with beautiful artwork, lyrics and interesting information on them that could keep you busy for hours. So many good memories wrapped up in that music. Last night I was listening to Dave Mason “Look At You Look at Me”- I love the guitar in it- and it inspired me to share a few of my favorites here. There are just so many but these are some of the first ones that come to my mind.
I could have put in pretty much anything by Carlos Santana but “Samba Pa Ti” is one of my favorite pieces of music ever recorded.
I couldn’t settle on a Pink Floyd tune although I listened to them endlessly- and especially at night when I was going to sleep. For one whole year in boarding school I fell asleep every night to Side 2 of Ummagumma- another year it was Dark Side of the Moon. I discovered music therapy long before I knew what it was.
Of course, Layla is a no-brainer and I almost hate to leave it out, but it actually seemed to obvious to even post it here. And the opening to “My Sweet Lord” is whirling through my brain right now. I’m trying to show a little restraint because this post could really be almost endless!
But this live version of “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits is too fabulous not to post it!
If you were only to listen to one of these tracks, go for Eye to Eye, “Falling For A Funny One”, with such a fabulous guitar solo by Domenic Troiano. Besides that, the lyrics and everything else about the song is just great- the first time I heard it I fell instantly in love with it and played it over and over. It still sounds just as good and still needs to be turned up loud on your best speakers!
Never mind what I said before about not being able to settle on a track by Pink Floyd. This is just brilliant! With such a beautiful vision of Dave Crosby as he appears suddenly on the stage next to Graham Nash with the gentlest sweetest smile on his face, clearly just loving what he is hearing- David Gilmour’s impeccable guitar. So happy I found this video. I’m definitely ordering the DVD. In this moment I am wishing once again that I had the sound healing center I have been dreaming about since I left Florida so I could share it with a group of music and sound lovers. I’ll keep envisioning it.
